Citizenship and commitment in The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe

The two values of citizenship and commitment reflect this way in the poem The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe.

Therefore, to kick things off, we first need to know what the values of citizenship and commitment mean. First, we are going to star with knowing what the meaning of citizenship that is the position or status of being a citizen and the quality of an individual's response to membership in a community. Well for me citizen means like a responsibility that we have to a community to be good and act well, it is mainly based in responsibility. The way we can see citizenship for me, is being polite with the people around you, not causing problems and being a good person to live around.

Know regarding commitment, this value has two meaning, this is the first one; the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc. the other meaning this value has is; an engagement or obligation that restricts freedom of action. With my own words this value means to have dedication, devotion, is to be responsible with the things that you promise, our say that you are going to do, it is keeping your word no matter what.  Being committed means to have the strength to keep what you say, to do what you said you are going to, to be engaged to do what you promise.

Know I think to know what I am going to write about, we might as well know what the story is about and know a little bit of his background. Therefore, the Raven is a poem written by the great writer Edgar Allan Poe, this poem was inspired in a couple of other writings, and this poem was about obsession and the loss of someone close. There was this man that had lost his wife Lenore and he was in a big amount of grieving because he loved her a lot, he became obsessed with the death of his wife to the point that he was going insane, one day a Raven comes inside his house and starts talking with him, the thing is that the raven only said one word “nevermore”. This story is very sad in a way because it expresses the felling that you have when you lose someone very close to you but also shows true love.

Know the what that citizenship reflects is in no way, I couldn’t find the relationship  between these two, maybe the only thing that I could see these two reflecting is that one of the synonyms to the word citizenship is actually responsibility and loyalty, and I think that he remained loyal to the memory of his wife, but maybe a little too much. I think he was excessively attached to the memory of his wife. Sometimes holding on to something is even more painful than letting go and I think that that was happening to him, we was so cling to the memory of his wife Lenore that it might have driven him to insanity, it was everything but healthy. Sometimes in life, you have to be a little selfish and thing about yourself before you think about anyone else, but yourself as a priority when something is hurting you.

And for commitment I felt like he was committed to Lenore for life, and maybe he thought that if he would let her go she wouldn’t forgive him for that, and maybe letting her go made him feel guilty that he was moving on with his life, but it is still very bad because he had an obsession.
